Scout Media’s Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider has reported that the Wolverine target will stick with his Syracuse pledge ($).
Earlier this month, reports came out that Michigan was starting to show some serious interest in 2-3 star Syracuse pledge Ifeatu Melifonwu. These reports were followed by Jim Harbaugh himself making the trip to see Melifonwu in person and Melifonwu going to Ann Arbor for an official visit. What those reports weren’t followed by is a Michigan scholarship offer.
Experts have looked at the numbers and determined that Michigan realistically has four spots left in this class, with the ability to stretch that to five if absolutely necessary. By now, most now that coaches have prospects ranked in their very own pecking order, which obviously includes prospects who would be accepted before others. Things have begun to trend back in Michigan’s direction with the likes of Aubrey Solomon, Nico Collins, and Oliver Martin, with top targets Willie Gay and Jay Tufele seeming like long-shots, but still higher on the board.
It’s completely reasonable to assume that Melifonwu decided to stick with what he knows is guaranteed or that those spots just may be already taken. We’re going to go with option number one this time around as it’s highly unlikely that those spots would be sure to be filled due to the turbulent recruitments of the aforementioned other prospects.
Michigan now looks forward to National Signing Day, which takes place in less than 48 hours on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. Stay tuned to TheWolverineDaily.com and @WolverineDaily on Twitter for the latest NSD news.
