Recruiting: Michigan Takes The Lead With 2018 LB Antwuan Johnson After His Visit

Last weekend Michigan hosted quite a few 2017 prospects and a few 2018 prospects. One of the 2018 recruits that made the trip to Ann Arbor was 2018 Springfield, OH (Springfield ) LB Antwuan Johnson. He got to Michigan on Friday and stayed until Saturday for a two-day visit.

“I think my visit to Michigan was great,” Johnson said. “I got to meet a lot of the coaches I wanted to meet, got a lot of up-close action and personal perspective of the coaching staff. They were very energetic about everything, I liked it up in Ann Arbor it was a great first experience.”

The Michigan visit was very successful for the coaching staff. Johnson got the full package on his visit. He got to tour the campus, look at things through a student-athlete’s eyes and watch Michigan’s spring practice. The one aspect that stood out for Johnson was the spring practice.

“I got to tour the campus, look at everything from the student and player perspective and then watched practice,” Johnson told me. “I thought practice was great, they split everything up between young guys and older guys so each group could get the same amount of reps. The main thing I took away from yesterday was the way the practice was run. I think it was great to get everyone the same amount of reps, so young guys can learn.”

During the practice, Johnson got to see his good friend senior linebacker Mike McCray. He knows McCray because of McCray’s father. Even though McCray is part of the Michigan team, he was not hesitant to talk to Johnson and recruit him a little after practice.

“Me and Mike McCray talked after the practice, I know him because of his father. We did not get to talk very long, but he talked to me about the coaches and Michigan having a home feeling. He definitely tried to recruit me a little, just telling me all the good things about Michigan.”

Johnson is being recruited by the coaching staff as a linebacker. On his visit, he did not get to talk to or see Michigan linebacker coach Chris Partridge, which he was a little disappointed about. However, he did get to meet and talk to Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown.

“Coach Brown seems like a fun guy to be around, but when he steps onto the field and walks inside the lines, he’s all about business. He does what a coach is suppose to do. I love the way he coaches; he’s very energetic and that’s why I like him as a person and a coach.”

Michigan really jumped out in-front of the pack during Johnson’s visit. After his visit, Johnson told me Michigan has taken the lead in his recruitment. Which is a good sign for Michigan because Johnson is from the state of Ohio and The Buckeyes looked to have the lead prior to the visit.

“Michigan is my number one as of now. I feel like they showed me that I’m a priority to them, they showed a lot of interest in me. During the visit, a lot of the coaches were very down to earth when we talked. I loved the way they coached during practice.”

Jim Harbaugh is a quirky and just funny dude. Well, recruits have taken notice of that during their visits to Ann Arbor. Harbaugh had some different and funny quotes when he was talking to Antwuan Johnson during his visit.

“Coach Harbaugh is a really funny and different dude. On my visit, he told me I could eat as much food as I wanted, he did not care. Also, he told me to take my shoes off if I wanted to and make myself comfortable. I just thought that was really funny.”
