Just like last weekend, Michigan hosted a nice group of prospects this weekend. Well, The Wolverines hosted a very talented southern prospect in 2017 Madison, AL (Bob Jones) four-star safety AJ Harris, along with his parents. This was Harris’ first visit up north to Ann Arbor and it was a very successful visit for Michigan.
“I love Michigan,” Harris stated. “Michigan is a great program, I was able to speak with all of the coaches and I couldn’t say there is a better coaching staff out there. The overall opportunity that you get from their education comes first and everyone on their football team graduates.”
Harris got the full experience from Michigan during his two-day visit in Ann Arbor. He got to watch spring practice on Saturday afternoon, toured the campus and facilities, talked to the campus advisor and talked to the coaching staff. Michigan’s campus and spring practice really stood out to Harris during his visit.
“It was really fun man,” Harris said. “I got to watch practice, tour the campus, talked to the academic advisor and also spoke with all the coaches. The one thing that really impressed me was the campus, it’s the best one I have seen. Everything is right there, you don’t have to go everywhere to find classes it’s all right there. I also was impressed with the spring practice, the team looks really good and the defensive backs look like the best in the country.”
During the spring practice, Harris followed the defensive backs around the field for a few hours. That meant that he got to watch Coach Smith and Coach Zordich coach up the defensive backs. Not only, but he got to talk a little bit with the two coaches after practice.
“Coach Smith and Coach Zordich are great coaches, it would be hard to find two better defensive back coaches. They both are very good coaches and they know how to develop defensive backs, just look at Jabrill Peppers and Jourdan Lewis under Zordich for one year. They have something special going.”
Two weeks ago, Harris started to consider making a commitment and thought he was close to a commitment. Well, after his Michigan visit, Harris now knows when he wants to commit.
“I will be making my commitment on Monday. I will be deciding between Duke, Vanderbilt, Florida State, Ole Miss, Louisville, Michigan and Nebraska. I just need time to think and talk with my mother and father. There are a lot of factors I will be considering. First, where I feel comfortable and want to spend the next four to five next years of my life. Second, a good overall school and a school that my parents like.”
The Wolverines offered Harris a few months ago. His recruiting died down a bit until Michigan decided to host a satellite camp at his high school, Bob Jones, located in Alabama. Well, Michigan started recruiting him hard within the last few weeks. Now, after his Michigan visit, The Wolverines are his leader going into his commitment.
“It dawned on me about two weeks ago that Michigan was my leader and I was thinking about committing to The Wolverines. I would say Michigan is my leader heading into my commitment date on Monday. I even thought about committing during my visit.”
