This is the first article of what will be a weekly article series titled “The Past Week in Michigan Recruiting”.
In-state OL has UM in top five
Three-star Cass Tech (Mich.) OL Jordan Reid announced a Top 5 that had Michigan in a second place position behind the Florida Gators. Reid, who in my opinion, is an underrated lineman, did suggest that a decision could come sometime in the near future, and while Florida leads right now, I still believe it will come down to Michigan and rival Michigan State.
UM hosts three star ATH Mason
Another three-star in 2017 Sandy Hook (Conn.) ATH Ben Mason visited Michigan and from all accounts, the visit was an absolute home run.
This visit seems to really have made a huge impression on Mason and I now believe that the Wolverines are now in the driver’s seat to land his eventual commitment. Mason has not suggested that a commitment decision will take place any time soon, but expect Michigan to stay on him.
Elite CB Samuels III includes UM in top four
Michigan finds themselves in a great position, as they have been included in the top four of Florida State legacy Stanford Samuels III.
The list includes the aforementioned Seminoles, Alabama, Georgia, and Michigan. For the longest of times this has looked like another FSU-UM battle, that we became familiar with in 2016. Being realistic, FSU has had the lead here and will probably keep it. With Michigan probably running second, it will take a massive recruiting effort, which would probably include Devin Bush Jr, to land the Flanagan HS star.
Big time 2018 OL offered
Michigan decided to pull the trigger this past week and offer 2018 OT Antwan Reed, who hails from the great state of Michigan. Reed has the potential to be an extremely highly rated prospect by this time next year, so Michigan’s making the right decision in jumping into this recruitment right now as this is the type of player they need to convince to stay home and play for the home school. Reed also holds offers from the likes of Arkansas, Michigan State, and Notre Dame.
