Michigan has been very hot on the recruiting trail within the last few weeks. Michigan has picked up a total of four commitments in the 2017 class within the last two weeks. The Wolverines will have their annual spring game on April 1st and many experts, including me, expect Michigan to make a big splash on the recruiting trail.
Below, are a few prospects that I think may pull the trigger on The Wolverines in the near future.
2017 S A.J. Harris
A few weeks ago, Harris visited Michigan with his parents and it was one of those visits where everything went well for both Harris and the coaching staff. Harris and his parents loved their time in Ann Arbor. After his visit, Harris informed me that Michigan was his leader and he was going to make his commitment on Monday, March 21st. However, he decided to hold off and think his decision through. Things have cooled off a bit, but Harris did inform me over the weekend that he plans to make his commitment sometime “in the near future.” The Wolverines still seem to clearly be in the drivers seat with Harris’ recruitment.
2017 C Cesar Ruiz
Ruiz has been that one recruit that has always rumored to have The Wolverines as his #1 school for a while now. Well, Michigan has a very strong chance of finally getting Ruiz to pull the trigger on his commitment this weekend when Ruiz is up in Ann Arbor for the spring game. Ruiz has always said he does not have a leader; however, everyone believes Michigan is the school for him. But will this be the visit he actually pulls the trigger on his commitment?
As of right now, I think this is the visit where Ruiz ends up committing to Michigan. He will be heading up to Ann Arbor with his teammate and Michigan target, 2017 OT Robert Hainey, who also appears to be favoring The Wolverines. If Ruiz commits to The Wolverines, I would not be shocked to see Robert Hainsey also commit to Michigan. Furthermore, Michigan has all the factors for a commitment from Ruiz, connections, good friends like Ahmir Mitchell, Ron Johnson Jr., Kareem Walker, Rashan Gary, Brad Hawkins, and even his former high school coach, now Michigan linebackers coach Chris Partridge at Michigan.
2017 LB/DE Corey Malone-Hatcher
Malone-Hatcher is one of Michigan’s top targets in the 2017 class due to his athletic ability and need for depth at the linebacker position. Malone-Hatcher’s recruitment has started to settle down and two schools look to be in good position and one school looks to be in great position. Both Notre Dame and Ohio State look to be in good position — as Michigan looks to be in good position for Malone-Hatcher. He does not have a set date or any preferred time when he wants to make his commitment, which is another bonus for Michigan. With all that said, I like Michigan to land Malone-Hatcher in the near future.
2017 S Jaylen Kelly-Powell
Kelly-Powell has been a very frequent visitor for Michigan. He just recently took a visit to Michigan last week with his Head Coach Thomas Wilcher and his teammates. It has been known for a while that Michigan State and Ohio State have been in the equation for quite sometime. However, The Wolverines have appeared to pull away from the Spartans and Buckeyes. With his connections to Michigan, Kelly-Powell actually being named after the former Michigan Fab Five member Jalen Rose and Michigan’s great education. A commitment from him could be very likely within the next few weeks. Not to mention, but I have heard some rumors that Kelly-Powell is “heavily favoring” Michigan.
2017 LB Drew Singleton
Singleton will be taking another visit to Michigan, coming off his last visit to Ann Arbor back in February. He will be accompanied by his teammate 2017 DE Corey Bolds, whose recruitment is very similar to Singleton’s recruitment. Singleton and Bolds have both been very high on The Wolverines for quite sometime now. Early in their recruitment, they appeared to be locks to end up in Ann Arbor. However, ever since National Signing Day, the Clemson Tigers have really gained a lot of ground on both of the prospects and might even be a little bit ahead of Michigan. When junior day and the spring game is all wrapped up I think Michigan will come away as the leader for both Bolds and Singleton. Maybe not a commitment during their visit, but their leaders; however, I am not ruling out a commitment.
2017 ATH Allen Stritzinger
A while back, Stritzinger named Michigan his leader in his recruitment. Well, he recently talked to Scout’s Brice Marich and Michigan is still his #1 team and he is also “very interested” in Michigan and his potential future there. Out of all the recruits that will be up at Michigan during the spring game, I think Stritzinger is the most likely to pull the trigger on his commitment.
Other Recruits To Watch
- 2017 C Brett Neilon
- 2017 OT Tyler Beach
- 2017 WR Nico Collins
- 2018 DE Leonard Taylor
When the weekend is all wrapped up I expect The Wolverines to have made a big splash on the recruiting trail. If I had to give a number, I would say 2-4 commitment by the end of the weekend. I also would not count out a few unexpected or unknown recruits to commit to Michigan.
