Michigan Flipping Kentucky Commits?
The Wolverines are only a few weeks away from their huge and big summer swarm satellite camp tour. Even though the focus is going to be on the satellite camps and the prospects there. The coaching staff is still pursuing some committed prospect on the recruiting trail. Since Jim Harbaugh has been at Michigan he has been able to flip a handful of once committed prospects.
2017 Toledo (OH) Central Catholic DL James Hudson informed me that he will be visiting Michigan this weekend. Hudson has been committed to Kentucky for almost a year now. Michigan secondary coach Mike Zordich visited Hudson at his high school last Friday and informed him that he wanted him to come up to Michigan.

Even though Hudson has been committed to Kentucky for awhile now, he has made it quite known that he will see other schools and talk to other schools. He informed me that he actually has the Kentucky coaching staffs blessing to visit other schools. This what he told me about his recruitment:
“I am still solidly committed to Kentucky right now,” Hudson told me about his recruitment. “I connected with some of their other commits, that’s a good place to start. I’ve actually sat down with the whole coaching staff and my family has met them too. They want me to enjoy the process with being a recruit and give everybody a fair chance. So, me and my family are still going to look at other places and other schools. We will visit other programs too. I want to make sure I am making the best decision for me and my family for the future.”
Michigan is not the only school he is looking at, he recently received offers from Miami Florida and Alabama. Plus, Hudson plans to visit Miami, Alabama, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and California. Hudson did not leave a possible commitment off the table for his Michigan visit next weekend, but he says he will need a offer and will need to bond with the staff. As of right now, Michigan State might be the one school who could flip him, he took an unofficial visit to The Spartans on April 23rd, before that he took three visits to Michigan State.
2017 Greenwood, IN (Center Grove) WR Russ Yeast is the other Kentucky commit The Wolverines are trying to flip. According to Scout’s Josh Newkirk, Yeast would like a Michigan offer before he visits campus. In fact, he also told Newkirk that a Michigan offer would change things within his recruitment.
However, the questions remains how much interest does the coaching staff have in Yeast? From what I have heard, he is not nearly close to the top, but there is interest from the coaching staff. I don’t think he will end up at Michigan, but if The Wolverines miss out on a few top-tier targets it is likely he ends up in the class.
Other Prospects Michigan Is Trying To Flip?
2017 Alabama commit RB Najee Harris
Harris is one of the most elite prospects in the 2017 class, he is one of those players who you can plug into an offense and he will make an immediate impact. However, he has been committed to Alabama since April 2015. The Wolverines are one of many schools who are pushing for Harris’ commitment.
With Jim Harbaugh personally visiting him back in January and Jay Harbaugh visiting him not that long ago. The Wolverines have become one of the top schools pushing for the five-star prospect. There have been multiple reports going around that Harris wants to visit Michigan this summer, but he also wants to visit Georgia, Clemson, and a few others. The biggest question is if the staff can actually get him on campus, but if they do I think they have a decent chance.
2017 USC commit RB Stephen Carr
Carr, similar to Harris is one of the top running backs in the 2017 recruiting class. He has the traits to be a major difference maker at the next level. In terms of his recruitment, he has been committed to USC for quite sometime now and he has stated numerous times that he is still committed to USC. However, The Wolverines appear to be a legit threat to flip Carr away from The Trojans.
The elite prospect, made his way out to Ann Arbor for the spring game back in April. From everything I have heard, the visit went very well for Carr and Michigan really jumped into his recruitment. Per a source close to Carr, Michigan is now the No. 2 school behind USC.
Expect Michigan to continue to push for Carr until National Signing Day. No matter how many running backs Michigan has committed, Carr is a most take and is a prospect the coaching staff will take at any point.
2017 Texas commit TE Major Tennison
Tennison is a basic tight end prospect, he can do it all — catch the ball, run routes, block, and make plays when the ball is in the air. Well, the Texas commit has been looking around for a while now, due to Texas’ not so friendly tight end system.
The talented Lone Star State prospect was another recruit who made the trip to Ann Arbor for the spring game. Michigan looks to be in really good shape for Tennison, as he plans to visit Michigan this summer for his second visit. However, according to 247sports’ Texas writer E.J. Holland, if Texas shows a friendly tight end offense he will stay committed. But 247sports’ Steve Lorenz has reported that Tennison will likely end up somewhere else come National Signing day. I will stick with Holland, I don’t think Tennison will end up at Michigan.
2017 Alabama commit OT Alex Leatherwood
Leatherwood is a five-star prospect at the offensive tackle position. Add in Michigan needing an elite offensive tackle, the Alabama commit has become a major target for the Michigan coaching staff. Michigan offensive line coach Tim Drevno has taken the lead in Leatherwood’s recruitment. Drevno recently visited Leatherwood at his high school and it was a major visit for The Wolverines.
After that visit from Drevno, he informed MNB’s Brandon Justice that Michigan is “really close behind Alabama.” In addition, Leatherwood informed me that he plans to visit Ann Arbor this summer and wants to visit for an official visit.
Now, Michigan flipping Leatherwood from Alabama will be tough as Michigan is not the only school who is currently pursuing the five-star offensive tackle. If Michigan can get Leatherwood on campus, which he tells me he is currently scheduling that visit, they have a good shot.
2017 Oregon commit DE Langi Tuifua
Tuifua is a prospect who might end up becoming a popular one for Michigan fans. Former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke is at Oregon now as the defensive coordinator and he would love to keep his #1 defensive target in his 2017 recruiting class away from Michigan.
Michigan’s Tony Tuioti will play a major target for Tuifia and his talented teammate 2017 DT Jay Tufele. Tuifua has informed me that Michigan is a offer he would really “love” to have and he has a lot of interest in what Michigan has to offer.
The Wolverines will push for a visit I am hearing. Plus, if Michigan can get the two teammates on campus it would be a major step forward and will make Michigan more of a threat to Oregon. Not to mention, but according to 247sports’ Justin Hopkins, the two teammates could be a possible “package deal.”
2017 Rutgers commit OT Micah Clark
Michigan trying to flip a Rutgers commit? Yeah, it sounds kind of stupid, but Clark is an elite offensive tackle in the 2017 class. He recently committed to Rutgers, which did not come to any surprise. However, what did come to a shock was how close Michigan was behind Rutgers for Clark. That being said, the Michigan coaching staff has continued to keep in touch with Clark.
The New Jersey standout is currently committed to Rutgers and looks to be solid. However, many schools like Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Michigan are keeping the door open to Clark. I expect Michigan to push hard for Clark and get a visit in the summer or an official visit during the fall. Will they land Clark? I can’t say because there is still a lot to be decided.
Many people thought that 2018 Indianapolis (IN) RB Markese Stepp was Michigan’s only visitor in the last few days, but that is not the case. According to Rivals’ Brandon Brown, Michigan’s #1 target in the 2017 class, five-star WR Donovan Peoples-Jones, made a surprise visit to Michigan on Thursday. The visit for the five-star prospect was “mind-blowing.”
In terms of his recruitment, Michigan has the upper-hand and has for quite sometime now. Peoples-Jones wants to go to medical school like his father, and his visit on Thursday was all about him learning about Michigan’s medical school and education. The Wolverines have pushed their slight lead for Peoples-Jones a little farther after his recent visit.
Another Five-Star Receiver?
💯 both edits was nice so I had to post both😅 pic.twitter.com/BOBA5h3bLO
— Tee Higgins (@teehiggins5) May 15, 2016
2017 Oak Ridge (TN) five-star receiver Tee Higgins recently released a top ten list of schools over the weekend. Well, Michigan was on top of his list. Even though his list was not in order, that definitely means something little as Michigan continues to gain momentum within his recruitment.
Higgins, like Peoples-Jones is an elite receiver and a difference maker from the day he steps foot on a college campus. Now, before Michigan fans run away with this one and start saying Higgins is going to Michigan. I would like to say that I don’t think Michigan is near the top right now. Higgins was once committed to Tennessee, and The Volunteers still look to be a factor. In addition, Clemson, appears to be the leader for Higgins right now. Clemson and Tennessee are still strides ahead of Michigan, but The Wolverines are still in consideration here.
The five-star receiver plans to visit Michigan this summer according to 247sports’ Steve Lorenz. However, he will also visit Clemson and Tennessee. I think Clemson will end up with Higgins as of right now, but if the staff can get him on campus you never know.
- 2017 #1 cornerback Darnay Holmes informed Rivals’ Adam Gorney that he plans to visit Michigan and Ohio State over the summer. Holmes is very good friends with 2016 Michigan signee CB David Long. Michigan will be a factor, how much of a factor is still unknown.
- 2017 OC Brett Neilon informed Scout’s Scott Eklund that three schools: Michigan, USC, and Washington are standing out. I have mentioned this multiple times, but this will be a Michigan-USC recruiting battle, with both schools head-and-head.
- 2017 Michigan commit LB Josh Ross got invited to The Opening at the Chicago Regional Opening, becoming Michigan’s third prospect to get invited to The Opening ( O’Maury Samuels and AJ Dillon ) . Not to mention, but 2017 Detroit (MI) S Jaylen Kelly-Powell also got invited, he is almost a lock to end up with Michigan.
- 2018 Stephenson (GA) OG Jalil Irvin received a Michigan offer a few days ago. He informed he that Michigan is his top-school and he plans to visit in the summer. Not to mention, but he has family in Detroit and they want him to come home and attend Michigan.
- 2018 Yoakum (TX) WR Josh Moore announced on Twitter that he plans to visit Michigan this summer among other schools.
