Michigan Is Still A “Top School” For 2017 Farmington (Mich.) WR K.J. Hamler

One of the top performers at the Columbus Regional Opening this past weekend was 2017 Farmington, MI (St. Mary’s) four-star receiver K.J. Hamler. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound receiver, put on a show at Columbus, winning co-MVP at the receiver position and earning an invite to The Opening this summer. After his impressive day, Hamler updated his recruitment and talked the latest on where Michigan stands with him as of right now.

“Michigan is still one of the top schools for me,” Hamler mentioned about Michigan. “Michigan is a top school for me because the education, the tradition, and the football program ran by Coach Harbaugh. It’s a great vibe up there and Harbaugh is building a championship team. Also, Michigan is a great program a lot of success coming from Coach Harbaugh he’s going to get those players where they need to be. But I want to see how their offense will run this year; I want to see if they will change things.”

Hamler is considered one of the top targets for Michigan in the 2017 class. Although, communication hasn’t been high between Hamler and the coaching staff, his interest hasn’t gone anywhere and he still really likes The Wolverines. The St. Mary’s standout is trying to change that by getting up to Ann Arbor soon for a visit, so he can clear things up with the staff. Hamler has built a good relationship with Michigan running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley and he is intrigued by what he has to say and wants that relationship to grow.

“I am in contact with the staff, but not as much as I am suppose to be I think,” Hamler said about the contact with Michigan. “Coach Wheatley is in the most contact with me and he just checks up on me. I am trying to get back up to Michigan. I want to get that relationship back with Coach Wheatley, he’s a great coach he knows what to do or prepare you for the next level.”

The Wolverines already have one bonus for them within Hamler’s recruitment. His best friend and high school teammate, 2017 linebacker Josh Ross, is committed to Michigan and has been doing some recruiting for his future team. Ross is trying hard to land Hamler.

“Josh will make a little difference in what school I choose. It would be fun to play with Josh in college, but I’m not going to follow him wherever he goes. He recruits me all the time, he’s my bestfriend and he tries to recruit me. He just says smart remarks like ‘K.J. needs to commit to Michigan and things like that’.”

Things have kind of slowed down a bit for the four-star receiver out of St. Marys. However, things will pick up for him as he plans to visit a few of his top schools when his track season is over on June 4th. The Wolverines will get a visit from Hamler, along with his teammate.

“I don’t know exactly when I will visit Michigan, but it will be in the summer. I plan to go to Ann Arbor with Josh (Ross) when my track season is over. Other schools I want to visit are Louisville, Michigan State, Arizona, and a few others.”
