The Wolverines hosted somewhat of an unknown prospect for Michigan fans over the weekend in 2018 Indianapolis, IN (Cathedral) four-star running back Markese Stepp. The four-star running back prospect, has already taken recent visits to Iowa, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State. However, after this weekend Michigan may have jumped right up with Notre Dame for Stepp after a successful visit.
“Well, I went out to lunch with the coaches and that was pretty cool,” Stepp said about his Michigan visit. “I got to see the campus, facilities, and also the academic side of it and it was really nice. I went to lunch with Coach Wheatley, Coach Bush, and Coach Bam. They were really chill. We mostly talked about the family feel of Michigan instead of the football side of it. They really preached about the team. Just how the whole team are brothers. If anything bad goes down, they always have each other’s backs no matter how bad the circumstances are.”
Going out to lunch with the Michigan coaching staff was a really great experience for Stepp. However, that was not the one aspect that stood out the most during his time in Ann Arbor. The Big House, Michigan’s football stadium made the biggest impression on Stepp.
“I would say Michigan’s stadium, The Big House, that stood out the most to me during my visit to Michigan,” Stepp mentioned about his visit. “The stadium is huge, and that really had me stunned. I can’t imagine how loud and what the atmosphere is like during a game.”
After the coaching staff had a chance to talk and sit down with Stepp. They didn’t wait too long until they decided to offer the Cathedral standout. In fact, it only took forty-five minutes into his visit before he got his offer from Michigan wide receiver and quarterbacks Coach Jedd Fisch.

“It’s very special, it just shows all the hard work pays off and it was an offer that I really wanted because I like Michigan. My area recruiter Coach Jedd Fisch gave me the offer like 45 minutes once we sat down and talked. He said that he had talked to Coach Wheatley and the University of Michigan would like to offer you a scholarship.”
Stepp was not the only person who was impressed after his Michigan visit. His parents tagged along for his Michigan visit, and were left as impressed or even more impressed about all that Michigan has to offer.
“Yes, they loved the visit as well, they really like Michigan. They really like the coaching staff and how much they care about their kids.”
The Wolverines appear to have jumped right into Stepp’s recruitment after a really successful visit. The coaching staff was able to roll out the red carpet for Stepp and also really impress his parents. In addition, he plans on visiting Michigan this fall for an official visit.
“Michigan is up there near the top for me I would say after my visit. I’ll be up there this fall for a game. As of right now, Notre Dame, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan State, Indiana, are sticking out. But I still have to visit Tennessee along with some other schools such as Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and the list continues. I’m gonna try to also visit Florida State too. I’m gonna try to visit some schools down south and on the east coast this summer.”
The Wolverines really knocked this visit out of the park with Stepp and his parents. It appears like they will be a major factor moving forward and have a really good chance to end up with Stepp. However, I think this will end up coming down to his “dream school” Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Michigan.
