Michigan held two of their biggest recruiting events over the weekend, the spring game and junior day. The coaching staff held over one-hundred recruits, however Michigan also had another frequent visitor in 2018 (Cass Tech) Detroit, MI four-star CB Kalon Gervin. The Wolverines and the coaching staff made another strong impression on Gervin over the weekend.

“My visit was really smooth,” Gervin said. “It was a great experience, I talked to Coach Wheatley he was just happy I came back up. I’ve been visiting a lot so we just caught up and talked a lot.”
Ever since Michigan offered Gervin back in January, Gervin has been a very frequent visitor for Michigan. He has taken a total of three visits to Michigan since January, including two visits within the last two weeks. Before his visit to Michigan over the weekend, he took an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor a week before with his Cass Tech teammates.
“I have really wanted to get more comfortable and get a good feeling about the program and with the coaching staff,” Gervin commented about his recent visits. “So, those are the reasons I have been up at Michigan a lot during the past weeks. I’m trying to build a relationship with the staff.”
During his visit, he spent a lot of time with 2016 Michigan signees Lavert Hill and Michael Onwenu. However, Gervin also talked a lot with his childhood friend and Michigan commit, JaRaymond Hall. All the guys above recruited Gervin heavily.
“I spent a lot of time with Lavert Hill and Michael Onwenu during my visit, I know both of those guys a lot and we had a great time. In addition, I also hung out with JaRaymond Hall. They all did a little recruiting for Michigan, telling me how Michigan is a special place and they want me to be apart of it.”
Gervin had a great time at Michigan watching the spring game, touring the campus and facilities, hanging out with recruits, and talking to coaches. However, his favorite part of his visit is surely different and unique.
“My favorite part of my visit was eating at the recruiting center. I ate some really good food; chicken tenders and macaroni. Plus, JaRaymond Hall and me had a really good conversation with Coach Tuioti.”
Michigan is recruiting Kervin in a special way. Wolverine star senior cornerback Jourdan Lewis is from Cass Tech High School where Kervin currently attends. Furthermore, the coaching staff is telling Gerivn that he can be the next Jourdan Lewis because they both are very similar players in terms of measurables and ability.
“Michigan is recruiting me at cornerback, but they are telling me that I could be the next Jourdan Lewis type of player if I come to Michigan. Jourdan and I both attended the same high school and both are very similar players, I think it’s a unique way of recruiting me. They have the work to show for it unlike other schools who are just talk.”
