The Latest On Where Michigan Stands With 2017 Bridgeton (N.J.) ATH Markquese Bell

2017 Bridgeton, NJ (Bridgeton) four-star athlete Markquese Bell is one of the best players in the state of New Jersey. The talented two-way player out of Bridgeton High School currently has a top ten list of schools, and he is speaking to a lot of the programs who are in his top ten. However, it appears like his recruitment may be down to two schools.

A couple of weeks ago, Rutgers was said to have the edge and were looking really good in Bell’s recruitment. Well, now it appears like Michigan and Rutgers our currently head-and-head with Bell. The Michigan coaching staff will be able to make a strong move for him during his trip back to campus as he’s planning on making a decision after he takes his official visits.

“Michigan is a great school, great atmosphere, and a great coach I want to get back up there,” Bell said about Michigan. “Rutgers, is pretty much the same thing, I am very interested in both schools and most likely they will both get a official visit from me. I will say that those are two schools that our recruiting me the hardest.”

Many people think that Michigan currently has the slight lead on Rutgers and some other emerging schools like Notre Dame and Ohio State. However, Bell’s grandmother, who he has lived with for multiple years and plays the mother role for Bell, is a fan of Rutgers. The four-star prospects, grandmother has helped Bell know what he should be looking for in a school.

“My grandmother will also play a major factor in my recruiting,” Bell informed me about his recruitment. “Her word and approval will be big for me and I want her to be comfortable with my choice. She also likes Rutgers, but I will have her approval wherever I decide to go.”

The Wolverine coaching staff has been hard at work this evaluation period checking out talent from all over the country. But Michigan linebackers coach Chris Partridge has not forgotten about the New Jersey prospect, as he is in constant contact with Bell.

“Coach Partridge talks to me pretty often. He talks to me about life after football, academics, and how the school could shape me into being a better person. In addition, just how the school can prepare me for life if football doesn’t work out as all the connections to the business world that the school has so I can get a job right out of college.”

Like I mentioned before, Bell plans to make his commitment sometimes towards National Signing Day and when he is finished with all of his official visits in the fall. If Michigan or Rutgers wants to land the talented two-way athlete, they will have to allow him to make a big difference on the field, have great academics, and early playing time.

“Academics and early playing time will play a huge role in my recruitment. I want to make a difference early in the program, but I also want a top level education.”

The recruitment of Markquese Bell appears like it will end up becoming a Rutgers-Michigan recruiting battle. Both schools have their factors that favor them. Rutgers, has his grandmother’s approval and early playing time. Michigan, also has the chance for Bell to play early and has the top-notch education and football he is looking for. However, by the time it is all said and done I think Michigan will have the slight lead with Bell and land a big-time prospect.
