Michigan already has the quarterback situation under wrap for the 2017 class. With the situation already situated, the coaching staff already has their eyes set on a west-coast dual-threat quarterback in 2018 Las Vegas, NV ( Bishop Gorman ) four-star QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson. The Wolverines hosted him and his mother for a visit from Saturday until Tuesday.
“It was something I didn’t expect,” Thompson-Robinson told me about his visit. “I talked to the whole offensive staff individually, toured through the football facility and campus. I sat down with numerous people dealing with the academic part of my visit and went to The Big House. It was unreal, last time I was there it was under construction and to see the final product was great. It’s a wonderful place and I can’t imagine what it’s like when it’s filled up.”
Michigan blew him and his mother away with all they had to offer. A lot of things stood out during his visit, however none more than the academics and academic center Michigan has for their student-athletes.
“The campus was cool, a little old, but the academic center for athletes blew me away too,” Thompson-Robinson mentioned. “The amount of academic advisors and stuff they have in there for the student-athletes is outstanding. I sat down with one of the advisors and the biggest thing she emphasized was how Michigan can help me after football and that is one of the biggest parts in me making my decision.”
Thompson-Robinson was not the only one who was at Michigan, he was with his mother for the whole three-day visit. His mother is a Michigan graduate and she has been telling her son how special and great Michigan and the town of Ann Arbor is since he was seven-years-old.
“She was in love with it all. I think she was more enjoyed by it than me. She’s been telling me about Michigan ever since my recruiting started, but she informs me about what Michigan can give me, but I’m the one deciding on when I should commit and who to commit too.”
Michigan still has yet to offer Thompson-Robinson; however, the coaching staff is still heavily recruiting and heavily interested in Thompson-Robinson and all he offers. He got to talk to Jim Harbaugh and Jedd Fisch about the whole situation.
“I talk to Coach Harbaugh for about an hour and he talked about how high I was on there board for 2018 quarterback recruiting and what type of stuff I should look for in making my decision. He informed me to get out to their quarterback camp this summer. Then I talked to Coach Fisch and he said about the same thing Coach Harbaugh said. They told me, besides the two or three 2018 quarterbacks they’ve offered already, I’m like the last one they’re looking to recruit hard.”
Michigan is already very high up on Thompson-Robinson’s list of schools, the Wolverines are in his top three list of schools. A Michigan offer would completely shake up his recruitment and would be very special to him and his mother.
“I mean a Michigan offer would mean a lot. I feel like it would change my whole recruiting process, other programs would try to hop in the mix and would put Michigan even higher on my list.”
Like I mentioned above, Thompson-Robinson has a top three list of schools. Those schools are Michigan, UCLA and Oregon. Both Oregon and UCLA have offered and have been recruiting him for a while now.
“As of right now, my top three schools are UCLA, Oregon and Michigan. I love UCLA’s offense and the relationship I have over there with the coaches. Oregon because they are recruiting me hard and like UCLA, I love their offense. And Michigan because of the recent visit.”
Thompson-Robinson was at Michigan from Saturday until Tuesday. Then he made the trip up to East Lansing to visit Michigan State on Wednesday. Finally, he went back down to Ohio State on Thursday and will be there on Friday. Furthermore, he told me he plans on heading back up to Michigan for their spring practice on the Detroit Lions field on Saturday.
